“It”

19 11 2008

I’m still reading the “It” book by Craig Groeschel and it’s pretty good. He’s talking about vision statements, which all of the Journey Church leaders have recently written and turned into pastor Michael, and it made me think about how I’m sharing my vision for the worship team with others. The worship team is currently going through what a win is for us

~~ Win – When we do everything possible, individually and as a team, to prepare the way for others to worship ~~

Anyways, that is a big part of my vision for the worship team, even though my actual vision statement is a little more complicated and detailed. So, we are talking about wins but I am not doing a good job of really stepping forward in reaching my goals for the worship team (really more like ministry, as opposed to team). I get so focused on the week’s duties or what we are focusing on lately that I keep forgetting about the “BIG” steps in ministry, what’s really next for us, not just coming up next week. I need to get better at this, God is so much bigger than where we are at right now.

I painted my office today…

18 11 2008

I must say I had no intentions of working 6 hours on my day off… oops, and my poor wifey worked too, she did a wonderful job (even though she didn’t believe in my color choices). I still have to figure out some storage issues that I created, because I also moved my office around to better suite having people in my office (my chairs and desk were poorly arranged to be able to have a conversation without someone feeling like they were in trouble).

So, if you would like to be the first person to have an awesome get together in my newly painted and rearranged office, please email my secretary at ScottClark@journeychurchnow.com and set up an appointment. Good luck with availability.

No really let’s hang out, stop in anytime.

This last sunday….

11 11 2008

Let’s call it what it was, a mistake-filled, fantastic, breakthrough-of-a-trainwreck. If you were there first service this past Sunday you know what I mean. However, I am sick of being scared of mistakes. I was so eager for there to be breakthrough in our worship that I missed a lot on the physical side of worship, which sucked, bad. So, now I need to keep, and continue to seek this hunger to encounter God, and make sure that we don’t have another week like this last one, physically anyways. God deserves better, my church deserves better. I am excited, though. I need change in my life. God is that change (ironic, our current series is change). Not that God was not in my life, but I can’t keep living without HUNGER for God. I also know that we ALL need HUNGER. That is the answer for so many, if not all, of our problems and issues. I think we over complicate SOOOOOO many of God’s words/commands. Doesn’t it all come back to Love.

I don’t care if this didn’t make sense…….  :P

New book I’m reading…………

4 11 2008

I am just getting into a book by Craig Groeschel (the pastor of lifechurch.tv, awesome guy) called “how churches and leaders keep it and get it”. The title is somewhat self-explanatory but based on other teachings I’ve heard, this book should be pretty good. It better be ’cause I haven’t finished a book in like 2 years.

I have to…..

4 10 2008

I was reading up on mold in houses to address a possible small mold issue in our new house, and I came across this by accident. Obviously the view point is a little off (catholic), but it’s still a funny coincidence. Enjoy.

I am a homeowner so I often find myself in situations where I must spend a good deal of money for seemingly trivial things. I never thought something so fuzzy, so small, so stinky, would cause such a problem in my house.

We have a shower in the upstairs of our house. From time to time, we find that we have to make minor repairs to faucets, drains, and water bearing types of all kind. This shower that exists upstairs in our house seems to have its share of leaks. In the past three years we’ve patched walls, replaced pipes, and even sent small elves into the walls searching for areas where wetness may exist.

When my wife called me at work to tell me that there was a flood in the kitchen, I wasn’t surprised. My only shock was that my wife had not yet built a boat and sailed out of the house entirely. Admittedly that would’ve been pretty funny, except for the fact that she had my two small daughters in tow.

I told her where she could turn the water off for the upstairs as the water continued to drain at a rate that rivaled Niagara Falls into her kitchen. This caused the walls to bubble, the counters to get wet, and the gnashing of teeth. As soon as the water was turned off, my faithful bride decided to call the plumber. He quickly arrived to assess the situation, only to tell us that we had to replace the majority of the pipes that were found in the wall behind the tub at the time.

“How much is this going to cost?”

“How much do you have?”

That was always something I wanted to hear from somebody who had come to work on my abode. I had a fleeting thought of simply writing a blank check and telling them to get the job done, but my wife hides the checkbook and I don’t know where it is.

I decided I wanted to watch the plumber for a couple of reasons:

In the first place, I wanted to learn how to do this so that if it ever happened to happen again, I would be prepared. I was a man, dang it, and I was going to be the best dang man I knew.

I wanted to make sure that when this guy charged me $400,000 to fix the wall that I was getting my money’s worth in gold piping and caviar dreams.

As he started to chip away at the tile it became apparent that there was an abundance of mold behind the tub, in the wall, and surrounding the pipes. It seemed the mold had been growing for years especially since it had receipts for college loans, was growing hair, and had artifacts of the Ice Age embedded in its soft, warm interior.

By the end of the day, half the shower had to be ripped out and replaced with a nice, new, vinyl material that made my upstairs bathroom look like the Marriott Marquis.

This whole thing got me thinking. How much is sin like mold to our souls? Especially venial sin which starts out under the surface, barely noticeable, and most of the time excusable. Slowly it grows, ever faster, fed by our excuses and justifications.

In time, the mold starts to grow hair just as the sin starts to bear fruit. We find ourselves becoming more angry, vindictive, and snappy at people that we used to be very patient with. In time, that small, justified venial sin grows into something more mortal, ugly, and deadly. (Yes, mold can be deadly.)

What happens when sin becomes mortal? We have to call the plumber. We have to call the priest. We have to call the expert. We have to call the one person who can reach down into our souls and take the mold and pull it out. If we don’t, then we get used to the sin and it eats away at our very lives.

Mold is gross.

P.S.

Dang it!! I always thought the one man was Jesus. Oh well. What would I do without the catholic church?

Home sweet home……..

20 09 2008

Ashley and I have a house!!!! We put an offer in on a house and the bank accepted it! Finally. We’ve been looking on and off for over a year and a half, put in multiple bids on multiple houses but it is all in God’s timing. Now we just have to decide who to choose for our loan. We are praying that this house will actually free us up financially instead of tie us down. It’s been a while since we have been able to give money to others who are in need, but we’ve decided that as soon as we’re able, in the next few months, we want to committ $100 a month to others in need.

Here are some pics of the house. We are so excited that it has lots of room to have people over!!

Yes, the house does indeed come with two Mark Ferrars (who are yapping away on their phones). We are very blessed to be getting this house!!! And look at the sky that comes with it!! WOO HOO!! Please continue to pray for us that we will have favor with the bank and insurance company so our Monthly payments will be low. Thank you Lord!!

I found this link that offers a very in depth view on praying for destruction and justice on the wicked. Here it is if you have some time. http://www.worshipmatters.com/2008/08/friday-night-at-worshipgod08-david-powlison-on-the-imprecatory-psalms/
