I’ll try to make this quick, the only real thought I had while reading this chapter is this; How often in the bible are people found praying that God will destroy the nations and people that are working against or disobeying God? Pretty often. Is this a lack of judgment or mercy on their part or is this a realization, or hope that God’s righteousness and anger will shake them out of their wickedness and focus their eyes on God? Here’s the question I pose that you consider and answer on here; Are we to pray like this sometimes?……………………………………………….. I’ll ask this again, are we to pray like this sometimes?
I really do want you to answer, let’s be honest. I might answer this in a few days, but you consider it. Are you hurting, burning with sorrow for these people and nations that are consumed with violence, lust (America), poverty? Do they need to see God to believe in Him. If so ARE WE TO PRAY LIKE THIS?
I think the way they prayed reflected the way they saw God. In the Old Testament God annihilated Israel’s enemies. I think because of that they prayed to Him as such. In the New Testament we see His love to such an extent that He sent His only Son to redeem sinful man. We see a God who wants relationship, not retribution. Do I think it breaks His heart to see His creation act the way it does? Yes, but His children are here . His hands, His feet, sharing His love, goodness, and forgiveness. His light shining in the darkness of this world. Do they need to see Him to believe in Him? Yes, they need to see Him in us. That’s when change will come. One person at a time.
